The Wahoo Glue cartridge is comprised of the cartridge body, removable nose plug, a threaded retaining nut and a static mixer.
The cartridge fits into any standard caulking gun, cordless or pneumatic, and allows simultaneous dispensing and mixing of the two-part epoxy. At temperatures above 60º F, even cheap caulking guns are suitable for dispensing Wahoo Glue. Minimum application temperature is 50º F.
Getting Started.
The Wahoo Glue consists of cartridge body, nose plug, retaining nut, and static mixer. To use, unscrew the retaining nut, remove the plug, and replace with the static mixer. Replace the retaining nut over the static mixer and secure firmly. Cut the tip off the static mixer at the desired opening size. Using a standard caulking gun, dispense small quantity of epoxy in a separate container to ensure the flow and color is even, with no streaks. Once proper mixing is achieved (even color), dispense the epoxy as needed. The efficient internal geometry of the Static Mixer thoroughly blends resin and hardener in a short mixing length for good application control and a minimum of waste. Place high-strength, non-sagging Wahoo Glue epoxy exactly where it's needed in less time and with no mess.
When finished dispensing: Release the pressure and remove nut and static mixing head. Replace correct plugs in A and B and replace the holding nut. Allow a minimum of 8 to 24 hours depending on temperature, for a full cure before loading.
Surface Preparation: All surfaces must be clean and free of dust, dirt, grease or any contaminant that would adversely affect the bond. Surfaces maybe dry or damp but free of standing water.
Dowel Application: Drill holes the proper size. Blow and clean out thoroughly with oil-free compressed air from the bottom. Fill hole from bottom-to-top of epoxy. Insert bolt in the epoxy, turning and twisting to ensure that the hole is completely filled. Surplus epoxy should come out the top.
Structural Application: Apply epoxy to mating or non-mating prepared substrates. Thoroughly work into the substrate for positive adhesion. Secure the bonded unit firmly into place until the adhesive is cured. Glue line should not exceed 1/8".
Application: Prior to using epoxy remove setting nut, remove plugs, install static mixing head and secure firmly with setting nut. Cut off tip at desired opening. Dispense small quantity of epoxy in separate container to ensure the flow and color is even, with no streaks. When finished dispensing: Release the pressure and remove nut and static mixing head. Replace correct plugs in A and B and replace the holding nut. Allow a minimum of 8 to 24 hours depending on temperature, for a full cure before loading.
Extending working time.
The Wahoo Glue Static Mixer blends the resin and hardener as it passes through the device. While working, epoxy in
the mixer will begin to cure. At 70º F, you should have about 42 minutes before you need to dispense more epoxy to prevent hardening in the mixer. If you need more time between applications, placer the entire cartridge with mixer in a cooler with ice. The cold temperature will double or triple the working time of the material in the mixer.
Reducing waste.
The static mixer blends the resin and hardener thoroughly and automatically as it is dispensed. When involved in a big gluing job that requires more than one tube, use the same static mixer, i.e., transfer the mixer from the empty tube to the new one. Since the mixer consumes a small amount of epoxy, if you're doing a small job, don't use the static mixer. Rather, squeeze out what you need into a mixing tray and mix thoroughly. The resin and hardener are slightly different colors so see the color difference to gauge the thoroughness of your mixing. When properly mixed, there should be a consistent color with no streaks.
Storing unused epoxy.
The plug covers and protects the separate resin and hardener ports. The plug should be removed before use and replaced afterwards. Because the plug will get residue of both resin and hardener on it, the plug needs to be thoroughly cleaned before replacing to prevent contamination. Also, be sure the plug is oriented the same way as when first removed, otherwise resin and hardener on the plug could contaminate opposite side of the port and harden. We suggest marking the plug and cartridge with a marker for proper orientation.
Replace the plug, aligning the markers you made, and then replace the threaded cap. The tube will be ready for use the next time you need it. Always replace the retaining nut, as hydraulic pressure could force the plug out. Store the tubes away from sunlight in a cool, dry place. Do not refrigerate. When properly stored, Wahoo Glue will remain useable for years.
